Tom Beardsworth is a barrister at 2 Hare Court Chambers. He prosecutes and defends serious crime and works in related fields such as professional discipline, asset forfeiture, and public inquiries. He has advised the government on various aspects of criminal law and procedure. He has a developing interest in the exercise of investigative powers and was part of a team defending one of the first individuals charged with espionage offences under the National Security Act 2023.
Before coming to the Bar, Tom was a financial journalist for five years at Bloomberg in the City, covering capital markets, investment funds and controversies arising from accounting and regulatory failures.
Tom is married with young children. Three hobbies have just about survived the advent of family life: running, playing poker and making ice cream.
Through the Thatcher Fellowship Tom hopes to learn from other fellows, CPS staff and guests about the future of the Right. He is particularly interested in the idea that a flourishing economy and cohesive society requires the state to become stronger, as well as smaller.
