Bruce Buckland

2025/26 Cohort

Bruce Buckland is an RIBA Chartered Architect, SME Property Developer, and podcaster. He runs his own architectural practice, Buckland Architects, based in rural Hampshire, primarily working in the super-prime residential sector.

He also runs a podcast called ‘Theory of Architecture’, which is a series of in-depth conversations with architects and academics about architecture and the theories and philosophies behind it.

Politically, Bruce campaigns on a number of national policy issues as well as volunteering, supporting and campaigning for the Conservative Party, and was a prospective parliamentary candidate in 2024. In his spare time he is a helicopter pilot, a downhill mountain biker, and a whitewater kayaker amongst other things, and most importantly a father, plus the proud owner of a working cocker spaniel.

As a Thatcher Fellow, Bruce would like to deepen his understanding of the philosophical, political and organisational variables within different policy areas, and have his ideas and opinions tested and challenged to the greatest degree possible. He also hopes to contribute to various debates from the perspective of housebuilders, small business owners, wealth creators, creatives, risk-takers, and people who believe minimally regulated free-market systems are the route to prosperity, innovation, and global success.

Ultimately, he would like to explore the question of if and how both capitalism and democracy can be made sustainable systems.
