There is a temptation to believe that with the passing of a Labour Party publically and unequivocally committed to socialism, to anti-nuclear policies and to proposals for the wholesale nationalisation of the main elements of the British economy, that this election is somehow less important to the future of Britain than the four that have preceded it. There is a tendency to believe that the future is not what it used to be. I believe this is an absolute fallacy. This election is going to have profound implications for the future of the United Kingdom as a nation, as a State and society.
