Far too many families don’t have access to the childcare they need

CPS Head of Education Mark Lehain has penned a short comment piece on the Daily Express on childcare.

Alongside a news story on parents missing out on pay due to a lack of affordable childcare, Mark writes that despite government subsidies, British parents are sending 30 per cent of their income on nurseries and minders – double parents in France and three times those in Germany or Japan. Mark goes on to urge government to “slash the high levels of red tape around early years – and also, by relaxing child-staff ratios to French levels, we could half childcare costs without undermining safety.”
