Truss’s in tray: the economy.

In the first of series of articles for ConHome, looking at the challenges facing the incoming Prime Minister, CPS Head of Tax Tom Clougherty sets out the economic challenge facing Liz Truss.

Her worldview is “unusually clear and well-established,” says Clougherty, and her premiership could see a break from “narrower fiscal conservatism” that has dominated the Conservative party and the country since the financial crash.

He goes on to say that while “meaningful action on energy bills may not sit easily with Truss’s free market principles”, failure to effectively handle the problem would negate the new government’s ability to act on any of their other priorities.
