The new fight for fairness – Liz Truss’ speech at the Centre for Policy Studies

Today the Minister for Women and Equalities, the Rt Hon Liz Truss MP, delivered a landmark speech setting a new approach to tackling inequality across the UK.

At the heart of the new direction will be a commitment to individual dignity and opportunity. This is the first time in several years that a Cabinet minister has delivered such a speech.

The Minister was introduced by Robert Colvile, Director of the Centre for Policy Studies, who remarked: “We talk a lot about the free market and how to make people more prosperous, but there is also an issue of fairness. It really matters that everyone has the same chances in life and is treated the same.”

The Minister said that the new approach will “focus fiercely on fixing geographic inequality, addressing the problems people face in their everyday lives using evidence and data”.
