Tories must welcome innovators to 'reinvigorate capitalism' says minister

Sam Gyimah MP, Minister of State of Universities, Science, Research, and Innovation, will call on the Conservative Party to “reinvigorate capitalism” by taking advantage of Britain’s position as a “global beacon of excellence” as it exits the EU.

In a speech to the Centre for Policy Studies, Gyimah will attack recent announcements from Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell as wanting to “carve up the carcass” of capitalism.

Gyimah will also call on Conservatives to proclaim the good that business can do and highlight the role of enterprise, business and particularly new technology in continuing to grow Britain’s economy.

Nick King, Head of Business at the Centre for Policy Studies, said:
“We are delighted to host Sam as he sets out the case for reinvigorating capitalism.

“At the Centre for Policy Studies, we are working on policies to promote enterprise and entrepreneurship at all levels of the economy and it’s encouraging to hear Ministers such as Sam making the case for free markets and the good they can do.”

Sam Gyimah MP said:
“The UK is a global beacon of excellence; pro-enterprise and pro-endeavour.

“We need to back innovation with investment and embrace new ideas emerging from across the world. We need to be a country that welcomes innovators and entrepreneurs who could help enrich our economy and our society, this is not the time to turn our backs on business.”
