Rising Tory calls on housing developers to pay tax to local community

“[Housing] developers should pay a new tax – with funds going directly to the local community, a rising Tory star has recommended”, according to The Sun, Tuesday 15 May.

Bim Afolami, Conservative MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, proposed the new tax in an essay written for the ‘New Blue: Ideas for a New Generation’ essay collection, published by the Centre for Policy Studies today.

Afolami suggests the tax, which would help fund infrastructure investment surrounding new housing developments would be a visible sign to existing local homeowners of the benefits brought by new homes and reduce NIMBYism.
