Rupert Stone writes for National Review on the legacy of Mrs Thatcher’s security policies as he reports on the Margaret Thatcher Conference on Security.
Stone notes that many of the issues under discussion at the conference – Israel/Palestine, the future threat of Russia aggression, and the importance of the Anglo-American relationship – would be familiar to Mrs Thatcher.
Stone compares her reaction to IRA bombings, an understanding that “the best response to terrorism is not panic but a “studied normalcy””, to Theresa May’s response to the London Bridge attacks, a declaration that she would rip up human-rights laws if necessary, and remarks that while Thatcher did make mistakes, more often than not in the international arena, she got it right.
