Increasing electricity imports from Europe puts Britain's supply at risk, think tank warns

Tony Lodge, author of a new report on Britain’s energy supply, is quoted by City AM today, Monday 23 October, arguing the government’s apparent change of policy will damage the country.

‘The Hidden Wiring’, written by Lodge and Daniel Mahoney, sets out how the government has seemingly abandoned it’s commitment to generating more electricity at home, instead choosing to massively increase electricity imports from abroad.

At a time when spare electricity generating margins across Europe are falling, it does not make sense to build an infrastructure which risks making the UK over-dependent on imports.

It would make much more sense for the UK to build up a safe electricity supply surplus from generators in Britain on a fair and level playing field.”
