Tim Montgomerie cited CPS research in his column in The Times, Thursday 29 October 2015.
“The most important fact about today’s welfare state is the extent to which most of us are now “takers” rather than “givers” — to use phrases that helped sink Mitt Romney’s presidential bid. But, hey, I’m not standing for election and I can risk upsetting you. More than half — 51.5 per cent — of British households receive more from the state in benefits and services than they put into the overall pot, according to research by the Centre for Policy Studies. That’s a little less than four years ago but it’s considerably more than in 1979 when the figure was 43 per cent.”
