The Centre for Policy Studies is delighted to welcome Lord Mervyn King and Lord Terry Burns for a discussion on the ‘Lawson Boom’ and the lessons it holds for Britain’s economy today.
Chaired by Daniel Mahoney (City Economist and former Head of Economic Research at the CPS) the conversation will explore the forces behind the late-1980s boom, including tax reform, deregulation and credit expansion, and ask whether we are now seeing echoes of that period in today’s macroeconomic landscape.
Lord King (former Governor of the Bank of England) and Lord Burns (Chief Economic Adviser to the Treasury and Head of the Government Economic Service during the 1980s) are two of the UK’s most distinguished economic thinkers. Together, they will share their reflections on policy making, the balance between growth and stability, and what the experience of the 1980s can teach us today.
The event is invitation only but if you have any questions please contact [email protected].
