  • Lord Stephen Parkinson, Chairman – Conservative History Group
  • Karl Williams, Research Director – Centre for Policy Studies (Chair)

Once seemingly destined to lead the Conservative Party, Sir Keith Joseph’s role as a key architect for what became known as Thatcherism makes him one of the most important politicians never to occupy No 10. The man who served under four Prime Ministers left a legacy that still echoes today, not least owing to his part in founding the Centre for Policy Studies. Joseph’s ideas continue to influence the nation’s economic policies across parties — creating, at least until recent years, broad consensus on economic priorities and the merits of the market economy.

To delve into the lasting impact of his transformative vision, the CPS and the Conservative History Group are delighted to host a discussion between historian Vernon Bogdanor, Chairman of the Conservative History Group Lord Stephen Parkinson, and CPS Research Director Karl Williams, examining how Keith Joseph’s ideas shaped the Britain we know today.

Doors open at 18:00, with the discussion starting at 18:30 followed by drinks. Copies of Vernon Bogdanor’s latest book “Making the Weather: Six Politicians who Changed Modern Britain”, of which Keith Joseph is one, will be available to purchase (cash only).
