CPS In Conversation with Tim Harford

23/03/2021 - 23/03/2021

CPS in conversation with…

Tim Harford OBE
Economist, Author and Journalist

chaired by
Robert Colvile
Director, Centre for Policy Studies

With his books The Undercover Economist and Fifty Things That Made the Modern Economy and his BBC radio show of the same name, Tim Harford is an expert at disseminating key economic ideas in an accessible form, on top of being a leading economist in his own right. In his latest book, How to Make the World Add Up: Ten Rules for Thinking Differently About Numbers, Harford tries to help us make sense of the data and interpret the myriad of statistics we are daily bombarded with in the news.

He argues that you need good tools to understand the world better – statistics being one of them – while emotional intelligence and logic are important when making decisions. At a time where statistics and data are vital to understand the pandemic and to prepare for the next steps to recovery, this conversation could not be more timely.

To discuss economics, disinformation, confusion, facts, and how to communicate numbers and statistics to the public at large, join Robert Colvile as he welcomes Tim Harford for what is sure to be a lively and entertaining discussion.
