to discuss the political landscape a year after the Conservative’s 2019 election victory.

A year ago, the make-up of the House of Commons changed decisively in favour of the Conservative Party. On the 12th December, the Tories emerged with a 80-seat majority – the largest victory for the party since Margaret Thatcher’s final election victory in 1987. With a ‘powerful new mandate’ (in the words of Prime Minister Boris Johnson), the work to ‘Get Brexit Done’ was the main priority, followed by environmental policies and levelling up.

Today, those priorities remain the same but are wrestling for attention with the myriad of issues thrown up by the pandemic.

The event took place on Monday 7th December at 14.00 – 15.00.
